Marios Camhis PhD Graduated from Athens College in 1965. Studied Architecture (1965 – 1970) at the National Technical University of Athens (Thomaides Prize). Continued his studies in London (1970-1972) at the Architectural Association (AΑ Dip Plan) and taught at the Planning Department (1972-1975). In parallel he enrolled at the London School of Economics and Political Science from where he obtained his Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in 1977. He continued his research, in 1978, as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
His book “Planning Theory and Philosophy” was published in 1979 by Tavistock Publications, London. From 1978 to 1984 he worked in Athens as: Free-lance urban and regional planner; Scientific advisor at the Ministry of National Economy, responsible for the National Coastal Management Plan (1979 – 1982); Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the Council of Ministers’ Working Group for the Greek Memorandum
(1983 – 1984).
From 1985 to 2011 he has been a European Commission official. He has served as: Deputy Head and Head of Cabinet of Commissioner G. Varfis
(1985 – 1988); Head of Unit in DG for Regional Policy responsible for cross-border and urban planning programs (1989 – 1996); Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Greece (1997 – 2001);
Advisor at DG Communication (2004-2011).
During the academic year 2002-2003 he was EU Fellow at the George Mason University in Washington DC, where he taught courses on Regional Policy and Environment.
He has taught at post graduate programs at the University of Thessaly (2009-2011) and at the Harokopio University of Athens (2005-2009)
Following his retirement from the European Commission he has served as Chairman of the Management Organization Unit of Development Programs, MOU S.A. (15/5/2011 – 12/2015).
